Human Resource The People of Bankura commonly inherit a culture of simple life; usually soft spoken, gentle and creative. Due to the dry & hot environmental condition most of them are dark, strong, energetic and active. Though Bankura has lots of intellectuals like doctors, engineers, artists, lecturers etc. most of the people are basically farmers and workers.
Out of a total population of 31,91,830,
48.79% are females, 90% of them live in villages. 25% of the farmers are educated. Persons belonging to Muslim, Christian, Jain, Sikh and Buddhist occupy 10% of the population.
Most of them speak Bengali, whereas 9% in "Santali".

Female Literacy Rate :- 49.79 %
Literacy Rate increased during the last two decade :- 25.50 %
An effective literacy campaign has been taken by the government to make all illiterate persons literate of the locality, causing the increase of literacy rate. Still we have to educate 11,83,485 persons, left behind.
